The One With the Planning and the Willpower

In the interest of being productive(!), I chose a pretty common running program called Couch to 5k to get back on track in regard to exercise.

It is a 3x a week, 9 week long training schedule working up to 3 miles. I usually run anywhere from 0.5mi (yay let's go running! *jogs a bit halfheartedly* eh...time to go home)-2.5mi., so I don't so much anticipate dying in agony, although, I haven't ever really been on a "regularly scheduled program", so that in and of itself may kill me. I'm really excited!! I plan on mostly running on the street I live on, as it is a 0.6mi circle complete with built in hills. I do want to branch out though, because (and I haven't researched this or tried it, so my theory may be total bull) I figure running on a variety of surfaces would be helpful in muscle training. It seems that asphalt, grass, trails, etc. all would help to train slightly differently. I should ask my co worker. I usually go on the road or paved tracks, but living in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate NY, I have access to an enormous number of state parks, running trails, and gorge trails. I think that this program will be exactly what I need in terms of setting a goal with weekly tasks, building long term endurance, and allowing me a little flexibility in which to branch out to different routes.  Yay! I'm starting on Tuesday!
